Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered flags in the state to be flown at half-staff to honor Charlie Kirk, following his assassination on September 10th, 2025, near Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The announcement was made this morning, within the reporting window. Separately, Representative James Talarico issued a statement on X, formerly Twitter, condemning political violence and stating, "Political violence has no place in America." Talarico also offered a personal tribute, calling Kirk "a child of God" and "Our sibling. Our brother. A human being endowed with infinite worth." These developments occur as the FBI continues its investigation into Kirk's assassination. Previous reports indicate the FBI is examining Kirk's online engagement strategies and that authorities have released two individuals detained in connection with the shooting. The assailant was described as wearing jeans, a black shirt, a black mask, and a black vest, and carrying a "long rifle." In the past day, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called for a "quick death penalty prosecution" for the killer, as reported by Fox News. President Donald Trump had previously ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-mast until Sunday evening, and Utah Governor Spencer Cox also ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff. Utah Valley University's campus remains closed until September 15th. The FBI launched a digital media tip line on September 10th between 10:30 PM and 10:45 PM UTC, seeking information. MSNBC fired political analyst Matthew Dowd for inappropriate comments made during coverage of the shooting. Separately, New York Daily News reported that unions claim "NYC [is] stiffing 9/11 widows and orphans of critical medical payments."
