Utah authorities continue to investigate the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot on September 10th in Orem, Utah. The FBI has recovered the shooter's weapon and ammunition near Utah Valley University and collected trace evidence from the rooftop where the shot was taken. Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason stated on September 11th that authorities "have no idea" where the killer might be. Earlier this morning, September 12th, 2025, a Utah Valley University student reported spotting a male suspect on or near the Losee Center roof twice in the weeks leading up to the shooting, informing the FBI that the individual strongly resembled images of a person of interest. Governor Spencer Cox and FBI Director Kash Patel held a press conference at Utah Valley University following the incident. In a separate development, Senator Marsha Blackburn sent an urgent letter this morning, September 12th, 2025, to Secret Service Director Sean Curran demanding the "immediate termination" of a Secret Service agent who posted on Facebook that Charlie Kirk deserved to be murdered. The letter followed previous reports of the assassination. President Donald Trump previously called Kirk's killing "disgraceful" and announced plans to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. Vice President JD Vance participated in an honor guard for Kirk in Salt Lake City, Utah. Amidst the ongoing investigation, Senator Lindsey Graham urged the passage of legislation that would designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, stating, "This legislation, if passed, would designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism under U.S. law until they return the children. If you want to vote no, we will make you famous… Enough talk. Pass it already!" Additionally, a statement attributed to Charlie Kirk on X, formerly Twitter, regarding the stoning of gay people, was highlighted. Criticism has also emerged regarding Palantir's alleged failure to track Kirk's assassin, with one user on X stating, "Palantir is fucking worthless."
