The search for Charlie Kirk's assassin continues into its third day, with the shooter still at large as of Friday, September 12th. President Donald Trump commented on the ongoing investigation, stating that Utah's governor is "very intent on the death penalty in this case," and that "we have to make sure that happens." Trump made these remarks regarding the assassination, which occurred on September 10th in Orem, Utah. He also noted Kirk's significant influence, particularly among young people, stating, "I've never seen young people, or any group, go to one person like they did to Charlie." The president's comments about the death penalty came as authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the individual responsible. In the past 14 minutes, President Trump also announced plans to visit Memphis, Tennessee, stating, "We're going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled... We're going to fix that just like we did Washington." This announcement comes amidst ongoing efforts to locate Kirk's assassin. Separately, a past statement from Charlie Kirk regarding the 2022 attack on Paul Pelosi resurfaced, where Kirk suggested a "patriot" should bail out the attacker. This statement has been cited by critics questioning the call for mourning Kirk. Previous reports indicated that authorities had recovered the shooter's weapon and ammunition near Utah Valley University and collected trace evidence from the rooftop where the shot was taken. A witness also claimed to have spotted a person of interest resembling the suspect on the roof of the Losee Center multiple times in the weeks prior to the shooting. Bill Ackman had previously raised the reward for information leading to an arrest by $1 million, and new photos of a person of interest were released. The FBI stated on September 11th that they had no current information on the killer's whereabouts.
