House Democrats are scheduled to hold a virtual security briefing tonight in the wake of the Charlie Kirk assassination, according to an invitation obtained by NBC News. The briefing, organized by the House Administration, will include participation from the Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police chief. Spouses or significant others of House Democrats may also attend the briefing. Separately, Politico reports that an effort by Democrats in the Illinois delegation to create an additional GOP seat will not move forward, as not all members are in agreement. In a related development, Nancy Pelosi reportedly commented that a floated donation was "certainly not enough" to laughter during a tandem fund-raising event, according to two people with knowledge of the event. Senator Lindsey Graham stated on X that "President Trump has once again shown what strong leadership looks like on the world stage. Now it’s time for our European allies to step up and pull their weight." Meanwhile, John Fetterman commented on the potential deployment of the National Guard to Chicago, stating that "when 600 people are killed in Chicago once every year, roughly, I think it's entirely appropriate." Fetterman also shared his personal experience with the National Guard in Washington D.C., describing it as "really not like an occupied city or anything."
