Prosecutors in Utah are pursuing the death penalty against Tyler Robinson, the accused assassin of Charlie Kirk, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed within the past 44 minutes. Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, is scheduled to deliver her first public address at 8:15 pm ET tonight. The announcement regarding the death penalty follows reports that Robinson, accused of killing Kirk on September 12th, 2025, at Utah Valley University, allegedly held antifascist sentiments. These sentiments were reportedly supported by bullet engravings found at the scene, according to previous FBI and Utah Governor statements. Robinson also reportedly told his father he would prefer suicide over surrender. In parallel, a vigil for Charlie Kirk, organized by the Rhode Island chapter of Turning Point USA, is currently underway at the Rhode Island State House. The developments come amidst ongoing reports of a misinformation campaign attempting to falsely associate Robinson with the far-right, including the sharing of a doctored image of him wearing a Trump shirt. Kash Patel previously posted a tribute on X, stating, "Rest now, brother. We have the watch. And I'll see you at Valhalla." Federal law enforcement sources had previously stated Robinson admitted to his father that he was the individual in photos released by authorities. Discord has confirmed Robinson did not use their platform in connection with the murder plot. Earlier reports also noted that Robinson's father's alleged affiliation with the Washington County Sheriff's Office had been officially denied.
