In ongoing defense policy discussions, Senator Elissa Slotkin stated that Congress should receive a briefing at a minimum regarding the U.S. strike on a suspected Venezuelan drug-carrying boat. This comment was made during an #AxiosLive broadcast hosted by Hans Nichols and Colin Demarest, which also featured Representative Michael McCaul, Representative Seth Moulton, and CSIS Aerospace Director Kari Bingen discussing the new space race. Earlier today, September 9th, State Representative James Talarico officially launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Cornyn in Texas, aiming to "take power back for working people" and address the influence of billionaires. Meanwhile, the House Rules Committee saw a defeat for GOP leadership as Democrats successfully appended an amendment to repeal the 1991 Gulf War and 2002 Iraq War Authorized Use of Military Force (AUMF) to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The House is scheduled to vote on the rule for the 2026 NDAA later today, with this amendment now eligible for consideration.
