DEVELOPING: Utah Department of Public Safety head Beau Mason stated on MSNBC's "Psaki Briefing" tonight that authorities "have no idea" about the identity and location of Charlie Kirk's killer. This statement follows the FBI's release of new CCTV footage showing the shooter running across a roof and jumping from the building after the September 10, 2025 assassination in Orem, Utah. The FBI also confirmed that trace evidence, including shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print, was collected from the rooftop where the shot was taken. The shooter's weapon and ammunition were recovered from a wooded area near Utah Valley University. The full video of the incident is available on the FBI's website. Governor Spencer Cox warned that "Russian and Chinese bots" are attempting to "encourage violence" online in connection with Kirk's assassination. Earlier, Representative Nancy Mace commented, "It sounds like the shooter was a tranny, or pro-tranny." In contrast to Mason's statement, some law enforcement sources had previously indicated a suspect had been identified, though police spokespersons denied this, stating no suspect had been identified but that photos of a person of interest were being released. The motive for the assassination remains undetermined. President Donald Trump had previously called Kirk's killing "disgraceful" and announced his intention to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. The McDonald's flag at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was lowered to half-mast by order of President Trump to honor Kirk, with the tribute set to continue until sunset on September 14th. Vice President JD Vance participated in an honor guard for Kirk in Salt Lake City, Utah. Senator John Thune commented on the "horrific rise of political violence."
