UNIFIL handed over a cleared minefield to the Lebanese Armed Forces near the Blue Line in Blida, southern Lebanon, today, December 19, 2025—the first handover since last year’s hostilities. Peacekeepers, in coordination with the Lebanese army, found and destroyed 393 mines after clearing nearly 2,000 square meters of land, according to UNIFIL statements. UNIFIL resumed humanitarian demining operations in southern Lebanon last summer at the request of the Lebanese Government, following a nearly two-year suspension. The handover occurred over the past hour during the reporting window from 2:17 PM to 3:16 PM UTC. This development supports ongoing ceasefire enforcement between Israel and Lebanon, following Israel's participation earlier today in a Naqoura meeting on Lebanese army disarmament of Hezbollah, as confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office.
