President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon appointed former lawyer Simon Karam to lead the Lebanese delegation to the Military Technical Committee meeting in Naqoura today, December 3rd, 2025. This decision, announced by official spokeswoman Najat Sharaf El-Din this morning, comes in response to U.S. government efforts and after consultation with parliamentary and prime ministerial leaders. The appointment follows the approval of Israel to include a non-military member in its delegation for the committee, which was established under the Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities on November 27, 2024. Ambassador Karam will attend the committee meeting scheduled for December 3, 2025, in Naqoura, according to a presidential statement broadcast by the Presidency of the Republic. The Lebanese presidency stated the decision was made in compliance with its constitutional oath and powers, aiming to defend Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and supreme interests. The appointment also reflects coordination with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam.
