Revolutionary Guards and the Iranian army are on comprehensive alert along the border with Iraq's Kurdistan region, following reports that Israel may be exploiting these areas for intelligence operations inside Iran. Political circles in Tehran are circulating that Iran has made a decision to strike into the Kurdistan region of Iraq, after its security services concluded that extensive breakthroughs were launched from there through an Israeli spy network. These developments come amid heightened tensions following the reimposition of UN sanctions on Iran, which became effective on Saturday evening, September 27th, 2025. Despite the sanctions, Iranian President Pezeshkian announced that Iran will remain a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iranian officials, including Araghchi, had previously asserted that weapons of mass destruction are contrary to Iran's doctrine. Supreme Leader Khamenei, however, issued a statement expressing distrust in certain parties and stating that negotiation or confidence with them is impossible. Reports also indicated a significant increase in the dollar's price in Iran, reaching 6,000, and increased truck movement at Iran's Fordow nuclear facility. The UN Security Council failed to extend the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), leading to the return of UN sanctions. Iran's Foreign Minister had addressed the UN Security Council, holding the United States and the European Troika responsible for the consequences of the UN Security Council resolution. The reimposed UN sanctions restore multilateral restrictions on Iran's arms, drone, and missile programs.
