Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared on October 18, 2025, that all provisions of UNSC Resolution 2231, including restrictions on its nuclear program, have terminated as the 10-year period set by the resolution concluded. The ministry stated that Iran's nuclear file must now be removed from the UN Security Council's agenda, according to a statement released today. This development follows the expiration of the 10-year sunset clause in UNSC Resolution 2231, which was adopted in 2015. The resolution had imposed various restrictions related to Iran's nuclear activities and was a key component of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Meanwhile, former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated at a conference in Tehran that Russia has two "red lines" regarding Iran: preventing normal relations with the world and avoiding direct confrontation. Zarif also accused Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of misrepresenting who agreed to the "snapback" clause in the 2015 nuclear deal, according to reports from Iran International.
