Armed men crossed from Burkina Faso into Difita, Ivory Coast, on August 24th, killing four people, injuring one, and kidnapping another. The attackers reportedly burned 20 houses in the village, located 2 kilometers from the border, according to reports on X by Charlie Werb. The motive for the attack appears to be a search for VDP (Volontaires pour la Défense de la Patrie) members, whom the attackers believed had taken refuge in Difita. The identity of the attackers remains unconfirmed, though reports suggest they may be JNIM (Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin). It has been reported that the VDP, a group previously implicated in infringements on Ivorian territory, may have been the perpetrators of the attack. However, these claims are currently unconfirmed.
