President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the chiefs of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to take firm action against nationwide protests. The directive comes amid escalating unrest across the country, with reports of significant damage, including the burning of the Grahadi State Building in Surabaya on Friday evening. The President's order follows a day of intense demonstrations where protesters reportedly seized police tear gas. Multiple sources indicate that riot police attacked an ambulance and medical workers in Surakarta on Friday night, despite clear medical markings. The Gerindra Faction, represented by Chairman Budi, has instructed its members to remain in Indonesia to address public unrest and has agreed to halt parliamentary housing allowances and other facilities, a move also supported by the PDI-P faction, citing ethical values and public economic hardship. Amidst the ongoing protests, President Prabowo has canceled his planned trip to China, where he was scheduled to attend a massive military parade marking 80 years since Japan's formal surrender during World War II. Social media platforms, including Instagram Live and TikTok Live, have also reportedly experienced disruptions within Indonesia. One fatality, Affan Kurniawan, has been confirmed among those affected by the demonstrations, with Gerindra expressing condolences.
