Nationwide protests that involved violence, vandalism, arson, and looting have subsided, leading to a downgrade in the socio-political condition colour code to Orange 1 as of 0600UTC/1300WIB on August 31st. The intense night of protests, which saw attacks on police facilities, prompted armed police responses in parts of Jakarta. Unarmed military personnel were observed on the streets in Jakarta and several other cities. While the intensity of the protests has decreased, authorities have downgraded the alert status two levels from the previous update on August 30th. Despite the lull, there remains a medium risk of escalation for the remainder of August 31st. The situation saw numerous incidences of violence and vandalism overnight. In a specific incident, reporter Leo Chanda from TVOne News experienced intimidation and violence within North Jakarta Police Brimob apparatus on August 31st at 03:27 WIB. Chanda was accompanied by colleagues at the time. Separately, members of the Garut DPRD received an audience with demonstration participants. Reports also indicated the mobilization of the army to Jakarta, with an encouragement for individuals to take a day off on August 31st. The socio-political condition colour code system, ranging from Blue (completely calm) to Purple, is used to track the growth of unrest, involvement of police or military, violence levels, and disruption to daily life.
