Qatar has urged restraint following heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Pakistani forces conducted effective and vigorous retaliation against the Afghan Taliban's firing, leading to the Taliban abandoning their posts. This development occurred as the Afghan Taliban's third request for a ceasefire was rejected, according to social media reports. Footage shared by TKCkhyber on X shows Pakistani soldiers at an Afghan post, with Afghan uniforms and weapons visible in the background, suggesting the Taliban fled their positions. The operations are described as a response to indiscriminate firing by the Afghan Taliban on the Pak-Afghan border. In a related development, a press release originating from Rawalpindi on December 10, 2024, detailed that Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid (Retd) was formally arraigned on charges including engaging in political activities, violations of the Official Secret Act, misuse of authority, and causing wrongful loss. The investigation also covers his alleged involvement in events related to creating agitation and unrest, including the May 9, 2023 incident, at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests. Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid (Retd) is reportedly being afforded all legal rights. Previous reports from this morning indicated that Pakistani forces had destroyed multiple Taliban camps and raised the Pakistani flag on Afghan territory. Social media posts also showed Pakistani drone strikes in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, targeting and destroying Taliban camps in retaliation for aggression. Afghanistan's Taliban government spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, had previously stated that over 20 soldiers died in a conflict concluding last night and accused Pakistan of harboring ISIS elements and planning future attacks. Pakistan's Defense Minister Ishaq Dar had described the actions as a "befitting response" to "unprovoked firing and raids" by the Afghan Taliban, aimed at neutralizing terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil.
