Pakistan has signed a $406.4 million contract with China's PIESAT to establish a satellite manufacturing facility and develop an orbital satellite constellation, according to a statement released today. The agreement, facilitated by Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), will see PIESAT assist Pakistan in constructing an integrated satellite system for global real-time communication and remote sensing. The initial phase involves the launch and operation of 20 satellites, the construction of a dedicated manufacturing facility, and the development of supporting software. PIESAT will also provide technical support to Pakistan, aiming to foster independent capabilities in satellite manufacturing, operations, and applications. This collaboration signifies a significant step for Pakistan's space program.
