This activity occurred during a period of ongoing protests in London, including confrontations on Whitehall and a demonstration at the gates of 10 Downing Street. The Metropolitan Police had confirmed arrests were made following clashes on Whitehall earlier in the evening. Simultaneously, protests were reported in Manchester, where a minute of silence was observed for individuals reportedly kidnapped while sailing to Gaza. Earlier on October 2nd, the suspect in the Manchester synagogue attack, Jihad al Shamie, was identified, and three arrests were made on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses. Counter Terror Police confirmed al Shamie had no previous Prevent referrals. Three other men remained hospitalized with serious injuries resulting from the attack.
