Spanish meteorological agency AEMET has raised the weather alert to orange for the regions of Murcia and Alicante due to significant instability expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding. The alert is in effect from Monday, September 29th, through Tuesday, September 30th, until 8:00 PM local time. The orange alert signifies important danger to the population. This heightened alert comes as the remnants of Ex-Hurricane Gabrielle are projected to bring potentially catastrophic rainfall, with local amounts possibly exceeding 400mm, to parts of the Valencian Community, including Alicante, according to a social media warning issued yesterday by WxNB_. The concern is for life-threatening flash flooding. The forecast indicates continued instability in the southeast Iberian Peninsula over the next few hours of Monday, September 29th, and into Tuesday. The orange alert specifically covers the Region of Murcia and the province of Alicante, warning of important danger to the population. Earlier today, meteorologists were also monitoring the remnants of Hurricane Humberto near Ireland, which had the potential to re-intensify as they interacted with the jet stream, according to an alert shared by Carlow Weather.
