Lithuania has completely dismantled its cross-border power lines connecting to Russia's Kaliningrad region, as announced by the national electricity transmission operator Litgrid. This action marks the final severing of electrical ties that had linked Lithuania to Russia and Belarus for 65 years, following the Baltic states' synchronization with Europe's power grid earlier this year. The dismantling process, which began in early February 2025, was confirmed by the news outlet nexta_tv on X. The move signifies a decisive step in Lithuania's separation from the Soviet-era energy system. Belarus is also scheduled to be disconnected, with the removal of its connecting lines planned for 2027. This development occurs amidst ongoing discussions regarding European defense companies and strategic potential, as well as unrelated incidents reported earlier today including injuries to a journalist and police officer during demonstrations in Lyon, France, and the invasion of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Paris by trade unionists.
