One person was killed and another injured in a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of July 25, 2025, at Casas del Rio (Gila) on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. The suspect remains at large, prompting the university to close its central campus as a precautionary measure. The University of New Mexico Police Department (UNMPD) received a report of gunshots fired at approximately 420 Redondo Dr NE, where responding officers discovered the two victims. According to UNM, one victim has died, while the other sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The suspect is still at large and may still be on campus. The university has advised individuals to shelter in place and avoid the central campus. The Health Sciences Center, including all clinical components, remains operational. Multiple law enforcement agencies have converged on the scene and are actively investigating the incident.
