The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this morning that it foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Israel from Egypt using a drone last night, confiscating six rifles and ten handguns. Separately, the IDF confirmed yesterday that a soldier was moderately injured in the lower body by a Hamas sniper in northern Gaza and was transported to Ichilov Hospital. The IDF also stated it initiated alert calls with medical officials in northern Gaza. According to the IDF, troops located the drone after it crossed the border into Israel. The military stated that the contraband and the drone were handed over to the police. The IDF noted that there have been frequent attempts to bring weapons and drugs over the Egypt border using drones in the past year, as well as smuggling attempts from Israel into Gaza using drones. Intelligence information received by the IDF indicates that Hamas has been re-excavating tunnels, including in Gaza City, over the past year, according to a report from Ynet. Additionally, two American ultra-Orthodox individuals were arrested on suspicion of filming a security facility in Israel, as reported by Israel Hayom."Renewed security from the field without censors" was cited in relation to both the sniper incident and the arrests.
