Israeli forces engaged terrorists emerging from a tunnel in Rafah between 3:45 PM and 5:15 PM UTC on December 3rd, resulting in several Israeli fighters sustaining serious injuries. The IDF returned fire, eliminating some of the attackers, though one reportedly escaped back into the tunnel. Scans are ongoing. According to "Security news from the field without censorship," a Golani force was targeted by gunfire from terrorists who emerged from a tunnel shaft in Rafah. This incident follows earlier reports today of an exchange of fire in East Rafah around 3:30 PM UTC where two terrorists were killed and a third escaped. An extensive intelligence effort is reportedly underway in the skies over Gaza City. Earlier today, two Israeli fighters were seriously injured in a separate exchange of fire in Rafah, where terrorists emerged from a tunnel and attacked Israeli forces with anti-tank fire. Combat helicopters and artillery fire were deployed in the Rafah area following that incident. Previous reports from this morning indicated that approximately 20 terrorists remaining in tunnels in Rafah were not surrendering and were planning a suicide operation against Israeli forces. Israel also confirmed this morning that the Rafah crossing will reopen in the coming days for the exit of Palestinian residents to Egypt.
