Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and approximately 160 other Global Sumud Flotilla participants arrived in Greece on October 6th, 2025, to cheers from crowds after their release from what a source described as illegal Israeli detention. The Global Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) reported distributing over one million meals today, bringing their total to more than 181 million meals distributed to date. Thunberg later addressed supporters upon her arrival. The GHF Executive Director, John Acree, stated that despite uncertainties, the foundation distributed over 181 million meals to the people of Gaza, with over one million delivered today, and emphasized their commitment to scaling operations and supporting Palestinian families. The arrival in Greece follows the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs' characterization of the flotilla as a "publicity stunt" due to minimal aid discovered. Approximately 171 flotilla participants, including Thunberg, were previously deported from Israel, with the MFA stating their legal rights were upheld. Earlier on October 6th, the Israeli Army General Staff ordered the military's readiness increased to the highest level, emphasizing defense during the Eid Sukut holiday amid indirect negotiations with Hamas for a prisoner exchange.
