The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on September 18th, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM UTC during a UN Security Council meeting. Hamas issued a statement condemning the veto as "blatant collusion" and "complete partnership in the crime of genocide" committed by Israel. The US action followed an earlier IDF recommendation to temporarily halt humanitarian aid entry from Jordan after a deadly attack at the Allenby Crossing earlier on September 18th, 2025. In that incident, two IDF soldiers, Lt. Col. (res.) Yitzhak Harosh and Sgt. Oran Hershko, were killed by a Jordanian national driving a humanitarian aid truck. The IDF cited a loss of trust in Jordanian checks following the attack, according to the IDF. Hamas, in its press statement, also valued the position of the ten countries that advanced the draft resolution and urged continued international pressure on the Israeli government to stop its "aggression" and hold "occupation leaders" accountable before the International Criminal Court. Separately, four Israeli soldiers were killed and three wounded in an explosion in eastern Rafah on September 18th, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM UTC. The soldiers were identified as Major Omri Hay bin Moshe, 26; Lieutenant Ron Arieli, 20; Lieutenant Eitan Avner Bin Ishaq, 22; and Lieutenant Eran Shalim, 23, all trainees from the "Dickel" battalion. The IDF is investigating the possibility of sniper fire accompanying the explosion. In other developments on September 18th, 2025, Samaria Council head Yossi Dagan advocated for a voluntary immigration plan from Gaza and Judah and Samaria during an event in Peduel, stating that "No Plastic State will rise."
