A 29-day-old baby died at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza on December 19, 2025, two hours after arriving at the MSF-supported paediatric ward in the early morning hours, from hypothermia according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, as reported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) during the 30-minute reporting window ending at 2:46 a.m. UTC. The infant arrived with cold body temperature and near-death vital signs but could not be saved despite treatment efforts by hospital staff, MSF stated in a post shared in the reporting window from 2:16 a.m. to 2:46 a.m. UTC. "Children are losing their lives because they lack the most basic items for survival. Babies are arriving to the hospital cold, with near-death vital signs: even our best efforts are not enough. They say the war has ended, but people are still having to fight for their lives," said Bilal Abu Saada, Nursing Team Supervisor at Nasser Hospital, in the MSF statement. MSF reported high rates of respiratory infections among children under five due to harsh winter weather and dire living conditions, which are expected to worsen. As heavy rains and storms batter Gaza, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians live in flooded makeshift tents, and MSF called on Israeli authorities to urgently allow a massive scale-up of aid into the Strip.
