This brings the total death toll since October 7th, 2023, to 65,062 martyrs and 165,697 injuries. During the period of March 18th, 2025, to the current date, the ministry recorded 12,511 martyrs and 53,656 injuries. The report also noted that 4 deaths are registered due to famine and malnutrition, bringing the total to 432, including 146 children. Since the IPC for starvation in Gaza began, 154 deaths have been recorded, including 31 children. The ministry also reported that 7 martyrs and 87 injuries arrived at hospitals as aid recipients in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of 'martyrs of the living' to 2,504 martyrs and over 18,381 injuries. In parallel, Sir Keir Starmer is set to formally recognize Palestine as a state this weekend, after President Trump's state visit to the UK concludes. This decision was reportedly delayed until after Trump's departure to avoid a diplomatic incident, as the US strongly opposes official recognition, and President Trump has previously warned it would reward Hamas. Earlier on September 17th, Israeli Chief of Staff Major General Eyal Zamir visited the Palmach Air Force base, and reports indicated ultra-Orthodox rioting near Prison 10 with two lightly wounded individuals. Israeli forces continued ground maneuvers in Gaza City on September 17th, with previous reports indicating advances into neighborhoods like Rimal and along Al-Rashid Road, causing connectivity disruptions in the northern sector. Earlier in the day, Israeli military vehicles were reported advancing towards shelter centers in northern Gaza and firing at Kamal Adwan Hospital. Eighteen U.S. Congress members declared on September 17th that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, with Representative Veronica Escobar stating her responsibility to speak against the events. Fiji officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem on September 17th, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in attendance.
