The World Food Programme (WFP) has suspended aid operations in Gaza following a violent incident on July 20 where Israeli forces allegedly opened fire on civilians attempting to access a food convoy, resulting in numerous casualties. The WFP stated that the incident, which occurred shortly after a 25-truck convoy crossed the Zikim border point, underscores the dangerous conditions for humanitarian operations and that they cannot continue providing support without fundamental safety conditions. The WFP also noted that this occurred despite assurances from Israeli authorities regarding the absence of armed forces along convoy routes. United States Senator Marco Rubio met with former hostages Keith and Aviva Siegel and families of hostages still held in Gaza, including Americans Itay Chen and Omer Neutra, who were reported murdered by Hamas. Rubio reiterated President Trump's stance that Hamas must release all remaining hostages, emphasizing the unfathomable grief of these families. Separately, Emily Damari, a British-Israeli former hostage, shared in a Friday interview with the Daily Mail that she experienced severe mistreatment from one of her captors, to the point of considering suicide. Meanwhile, David Samuel May of FDD criticized the United Nations, stating that if famine in Gaza is as severe as claimed, it is indefensible for the UN to allow food to remain undelivered, suggesting this inaction benefits Hamas. GHF's Chapin Fay also highlighted UN trucks laden with aid sitting idle within Gaza, inaccessible to the Palestinian population. While GHF has distributed over 92 million meals, Fay called on the UN and the international community to increase their efforts, as Gaza is in dire need and GHF cannot sustain feeding Gaza alone. President Trump characterized the situation in Gaza as "terrible and enthusiastic," noting its widespread implications and stating that the world will observe Israel's response. A State Department spokesperson indicated that following Hamas's rejection of diplomacy and breach of a ceasefire, the US and its regional partners will pursue other avenues. Initial reports from Al-Shifa Hospital indicated at least 20 martyrs and over 300 injured in the vicinity of an aid center near Zikim, northwest of Gaza City, though these figures are attributed to "media" reports.
