An individual armed with a toy gun was neutralized by IDF forces at a checkpoint near Tel Romida in Hebron a short time ago after refusing to stop during a suspected arrest procedure. Separately, Hamas gunmen breached an IDF encampment in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, yesterday, exchanging fire with soldiers and resulting in injuries to three Israeli troops. The IDF stated that the Hebron incident involved a terrorist who approached an IDF checkpoint. Forces recognized the weapon as a toy gun and initiated a suspected arrest procedure. When the individual refused to stop, accurate fire was used to neutralize them, according to Israeli military reports cited by Al-Monitor. No Israeli casualties were reported in the Hebron incident. In Khan Younis, the IDF described the breach of their encampment as a "failure." Hamas operatives emerged from a tunnel and split into groups, with some entering buildings within the military post. Intense fighting occurred for approximately five minutes inside one building, where at least one gunman was killed. Additional exchanges of fire took place outside. The IDF stated that a tank shelled an empty building after observing RPG fire, killing at least two militants there, and another operative was killed by tanks. A further gunman attempting to flee was killed by armored forces about three hours after the main engagement concluded. Three soldiers sustained injuries during the Khan Younis fighting, including one seriously, whose condition has since improved. The tunnel used by the Hamas operatives was reportedly known to the military, and part of it had been previously demolished. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has criticized Israel, stating it ignored mediation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza. In related news, the Israeli military is reportedly considering recruitment in the United States due to significant soldier shortages.
