Five members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (FDS) were killed in an attack by the Islamic State (IS) in the northeastern Syrian province of Latakia today, September 25th, 2025. The FDS confirmed the casualties following the incident. This attack occurred during a period when firefighting efforts in the same province were nearing completion. Wildfires that had approached the Latakia-Aleppo Highway were successfully divided into smaller sections for containment, according to earlier reports. The strategy to split the blazes was implemented earlier today, leading to their near-extinguishment. Syrian Defense Ministry engineering units have also continued their operations in northeastern Latakia province, focusing on clearing war remnants and hazardous materials. These efforts have been ongoing since the fall of the Assad regime.
