Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani announced a joint roadmap with Jordan and the United States in Damascus on September 16th, 2025, aimed at restoring peace in Suwayda. The plan focuses on accountability for attackers, humanitarian aid, compensation for affected individuals, restoration of services, and deployment of local security forces. The roadmap, developed with support from Jordan and the US, guarantees rights, supports justice, and promotes community reconciliation, according to al-Shaibani. Key steps include holding accountable those who attacked civilians and their property with UN coordination, maintaining the flow of humanitarian and medical aid, compensating victims, restoring villages, and facilitating the return of displaced persons. During a joint press conference in Tishreen Place, al-Shaibani, alongside Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack, outlined the five-step plan. The final step involves deploying local forces from the Ministry of Interior to secure roads and ensure the movement of people and trade. This development follows earlier reports on September 16th regarding the kidnapping of two Kurdish girls between Kobani and Aleppo, with their family reporting ransom demands. Additionally, the Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (PDK-S) has stated that any dialogue with the Syrian government must address territorial issues including Afrin, Serê Kaniyê, and Tal Abyad.
