Moderates and liberals have claimed victory in Syria's indirect legislative elections, as results continued to be announced over the past two hours, according to social media analysis. The outcome indicates a presence of minorities including Kurds, Ismaelis, Alaouites, and Bedouins, alongside various political currents such as conservatives, lay people, and socialists. The social media analysis, translated from French, described the election results as a "SPECIAL DAY" and noted Ahmad al-Sharaa's objective of distancing himself from older, conservative allies. This follows earlier reports of ongoing clashes between the Syrian Army and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the Deir Hafer front in eastern Aleppo throughout October 5th, 2025. The SDF had previously stated that "Damascus-affiliated militants" initiated an attack with a "suicide drone" and a second drone targeting one of their patrols, resulting in seven SDF fighters sustaining injuries. Syrian government forces implemented road closures affecting routes between SDF-controlled territories and Damascus, including the complete closure of the Ethria-Raqqa road, as confirmed by official sources. This interruption of movement occurred amidst military reinforcements deployed by both the Syrian Arab Army and the SDF to the Deir Hafer area. The Syrian Army received significant reinforcements including heavy weapons and advanced support units, while the SDF deployed troops and equipment such as Lenco BearCat armored vehicles and HMMWVs. Previous reports from October 5th, 2025, indicated that many videos circulating online allegedly showing bombardment between Damascus and the SDF on the eastern Aleppo front were recycled footage. An Eastern Naqimi correspondent claimed Syrian Arab Army forces conducted accurate strikes on SDF militia positions in the eastern Aleppo countryside in response to actions by the Qasd militia. Charles Lister, in a post made on October 5th, 2025, described the indirect parliamentary elections as yielding "encouraging results in terms of local representation," calling it "another step in the right direction."
