The Syrian Arab Army announced at approximately 11:45 p.m. UTC on Jan. 10, 2026, that it imposed complete control over Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, Bani Zaid, Al-Shaqif housing, youth housing, and Al-Larimun factories neighborhoods in Aleppo city after expelling, surrendering, arresting, or neutralizing SDF forces, according to an official statement posted on X by @ivarmm. SDF commander Mazloum Abdi confirmed over the past hour that international mediators reached an understanding for a ceasefire and the release and evacuation of SDF fighters, wounded, martyrs, and civilians from those neighborhoods to northern and eastern Syria. A government source told Syria TV that about 400 SDF members, including wounded, were evacuated recently from the areas. Abdi called on mediators to adhere to promises to stop violations and enable the safe return of displaced residents, while paying tribute to the resistance in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, in a statement posted on X. The Kurdish-led SDF reported that a female fighter was executed and thrown from a building by the Syrian army after resisting an attack in Sheikh Maqsoud for hours and being captured by armed men, according to Rudaw English citing SDF statements. The developments follow days of clashes in northern Aleppo between Syrian government forces and SDF, including failed ceasefire efforts and advances into Sheikh Maqsoud, as reported earlier on Jan. 10 by Agence France-Presse and local sources. The United States urged the Syrian government and Kurdish authorities to resume negotiations following the clashes, per AFP.
