Over the past hour, nearly 400 personnel from Syria's Security and Defense Ministry were killed in conflict in Suwayda, with the fate of approximately 50 remaining unknown, according to a statement from the Governor of As-Suwayda to Al-Arabiya. Further compounding the situation, a Kurdish official, Bedran Ciya Kurd, stated on October 8th that armed factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government did not adhere to a ceasefire reached yesterday with Damascus, aimed at halting hostilities in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. Ciya Kurd accused these factions, supported by Ankara, of implementing external agendas and called for international and regional mediators to pressure Ankara to cease its interference in Syrian affairs. The Governor of As-Suwayda also reported that about 20 members of the Security and Defense Ministry were arrested by Damascus for violations, while tribes in Suwayda still hold 55 people. Additionally, roughly 300 individuals from the tribes are reportedly detained by factions within As-Suwayda, according to the Governor's statement to Al-Arabiya. Previous reports indicated that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani had urged Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa that Syria cannot be governed through a centralized system and that the PKK should withdraw from Rojava. Barzani also emphasized that Syria's diverse ethnic and religious groups make centralism unworkable and noted friendly relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey. Earlier on October 8th, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa had warned that recent Israeli actions endangered U.S. interests, and a Syrian government delegation met with representatives led by SDF commander Mazloum Abdi to discuss potential constitutional amendments regarding Kurdish rights and the integration of the SDF into the Syrian army, agreeing to reopen crossings in northern and eastern Syria.
