Deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has started a new life in Moscow as an ophthalmologist treating Russia's elite, The Guardian reported on Monday. The report emerged during the three-hour period ending at 10:15 a.m. UTC. According to The Guardian, as cited by Israeli journalist Amichai Stein on X this morning, Assad is studying medicine, learning Russian, and living a quiet life of luxury. The former leader works for personal fulfillment rather than money. The newspaper stated that Assad transferred approximately $250 million in cash to Russia in 2018-2019 and that his family owns 20 luxury apartments in the Moscow City complex. In related Syrian developments during the same period, terrorism analyst Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi noted on X that ISIS does not claim every attack immediately, countering assertions linking the group to Sunday's Palmyra attack based on the absence of a claim. Al-Tamimi explained that delays occur due to communication issues or operational security. The reports come a year after Assad's overthrow from power in Syria.
