Overnight, Russia launched its largest strike on Ukraine's gas infrastructure since the war began, deploying 35 missiles, including ballistic ones, and 60 drones targeting facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. According to Naftogaz, the attack, which saw only a portion of the projectiles intercepted, aims to disrupt the heating season and leave Ukrainians without heat during winter, stating it lacked any military purpose. During the past hour, reports indicate Russia is now focusing on destroying power grids in the northeastern regions of Ukraine, specifically Sumy and Chernihiv, with the stated goal of depopulation during the cold season. Dozens of gas infrastructure sites sustained damage, some critically, as a result of the overnight assault. This significant escalation in attacks on energy infrastructure follows a period of heightened activity. Earlier on October 3rd, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck the Orsknefteorgsintez refinery in Russia's Orenburg oblast with a drone, while intense fighting continued in the Pokrovsk direction. Separately, the Ukrainian Air Force had launched an attack targeting a building occupied by Russian soldiers within the past day.
