India's largest private port operator, Adani Group, has banned all Western-sanctioned tankers from its 14 ports, a move expected to disrupt shipments by Russia's "shadow fleet." This development follows Ukrainian drone strikes yesterday that damaged two tankers, Kusto and Cai Yun, at Russia's Primorsk port, temporarily halting operations at the key oil terminal, according to Reuters. The Adani Group's decision, which impacts India's largest commercial port by cargo volume in Mundra, could significantly affect Russian oil supplies. HPCL-Mittal Energy, for example, relies on an Adani port for its crude oil imports for a refinery with a capacity of 226,000 barrels per day. Yesterday, Ukrainian drone attacks on the Primorsk port, a significant Russian oil export hub, caused operational halts and damage to the two tankers. Experts estimate the port's daily trade value at approximately $100 million. These events occur amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions, with Poland having launched Operation "Eastern Sentinel" in response to Russian drone incursions. French A-400M aircraft delivered arms for Rafale jets stationed in Poland as part of this operation. Russian forces are also conducting extensive military exercises, including Zapad-2025 activities involving missile systems and bomber strikes.
