Air raid warnings were issued to residents in six poviats of Poland's Lubelskie Voivodeship, including Chełm, Chełm, Krasnostawski, Łęczyński, Świdnicki, and Włodawski, between 4:02 PM UTC and 4:16 PM UTC on September 13th, 2025, due to a threat of attack from the air. Simultaneously, a Russian Shahed-type drone entered Romanian territory, prompting an alert from the Romanian Armed Forces, according to Romanian media. The Polish warning, disseminated by the Rapid Response Centre (RCB), advised citizens to be careful and follow instructions from emergency services. Sirens were activated in Świdnik, Poland, amidst the alerts. Reports indicate the alert was sent to mobile phone users in the specified counties, with further messages expected. The RCB alert stated, "Threat of attack from the air. Being careful. Follow the instructions of the services. Expect further messages." This follows earlier reports that Polish and NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled and ground-based air defenses were raised to their highest readiness due to Russian drone activity over western Ukraine near Polish airspace. Lublin Airport in eastern Poland had previously been closed due to "unplanned military activity related to ensuring state security." The presence of a Russian drone in Romanian territory, described as a Geran-type drone by monitoring channels, adds to the regional air threat concerns. Earlier in the day, around 3:03 PM UTC, Polish and NATO fighter jets were launched in response to potential drone activity in western Ukraine and threats to southern Ukraine and Crimea. Poland's ground air defense systems had reached their highest state of combat readiness. Separately, a Ukrainian F-16 reportedly shot down a drone identified as "Herber" over Ukrainian territory. Flights scheduled for Lublin Airport were being rerouted to Warsaw Chopin Airport.
