Ukraine launched drone attacks on multiple targets across Russia early on August 2nd, striking oil refineries in Novokuybyshevsk (Samara region) and Ryazan, as well as an industrial facility in Penza. The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery was hit by Ukrainian drones, causing a large explosion. The refinery is located at coordinates 53.083848°N 49.952214°E. In Ryazan, reports indicated a fire at the local refinery, with smoke observed. Penza was also targeted, with damage reported at JSC "Electric Production Association" (Electro-Prin), a facility crucial to Russia's military-industrial complex that specializes in crypto protection, military network equipment, and hardware solutions for aviation and armored vehicles. The attack in Penza occurred at coordinates 53.224360776709915, 44.96244097199162. Additionally, Ukrainian forces reportedly bombed the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airbase in the Krasnodar region, an area from which Shahed-type drones are often launched towards Ukraine. The extent of damage at this airbase was not immediately clear, but fire hotspots were observed. These strikes follow recent statements by TASS military expert Mikhail Khodarenok, who compared the capabilities of certain Russian weapons to tactical nuclear weapons, stating they could strike targets across the entire European continent. Separately, former President Donald Trump commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a "strong nut" and noting that U.S. atomic submarines were positioned "closer to the Russian Federation."
