Smolensk is currently under a massive UAV attack, according to reports from Exilenova+. At the DSEI arms fair in London, Ukrainian officials met with Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger. They finalized plans for a new plant in a secure Ukrainian region to produce Rheinmetall shells for the Armed Forces, with land allocated on September 9. Talks also covered joint projects on armored vehicle repair and production, as well as advancing air defense solutions against drones. This follows previous reports of increased Russian drone activity and incursions into Polish airspace, prompting Poland to deploy 40,000 troops along its borders with Belarus and Russia in response to the Zapad-2025 drills. France deployed three Rafale fighter jets to Poland, and NATO doubled its fighter presence over the country. Latvia has also closed its airspace along its borders with Russia and Belarus as a precautionary measure.
