Russian air defense systems destroyed 26 drones over the Moscow region between 11:45 PM UTC on October 26th and 12:45 AM UTC on October 27th, 2025, following an attack involving over 200 unmanned aerial vehicles launched by "the enemy" through the Bryansk region towards Kaluga, Oryol, Tula, and Moscow regions. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the destruction of 26 UAVs, as reported by RIA Novosti. "Exilenova+" noted that Moscow air defense was "actively trying to fight off reactive targets" and questioned how long the defense systems could sustain the multi-hour attack. Radar monitoring channels indicated ongoing drone activity in the southern, western, and eastern directions of the Moscow region. Earlier reports detailed the destruction of at least 30 UAVs over the Moscow region, with three additional drones shot down en route to Moscow. The attack has been ongoing for several hours. "Lyuty" strike drones, first used by Ukraine in early 2024, have reportedly been employed, with a dozen strategic Russian Federation objects targeted without hindrance in March. Former Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aziz Jafari stated that Russia "needs our missiles because it does not have the precision that our systems possess," indicating Moscow's interest in Iranian missile capabilities due to their high precision. Previous reports from the preceding hour indicated widespread drone activity across the Moscow region, with explosions near the Kommunarka area shortly before midnight UTC. Additional UAVs were detected moving towards Chekhov, Mikhnevo, Meshcherino, Kolomna, and Voskresensk, according to radar monitoring channels. "Новости Москвы" stated that 14 drones had already been destroyed and that restrictions were introduced at Zhukovsky and Domodedovo airports, with 5 flights cancelled and 6 postponed. Earlier reports from October 26th detailed a drone being shot down approaching Moscow around 10:00 PM UTC, with debris falling in the capital. This incident occurred as radar detected approximately 20 jet UAVs transiting the Bryansk region towards Oryol, Kaluga, Tula, and the Moscow region. A widespread UAV alert was in effect across the entire Moscow region, including the city itself, with mobile air defense crews reportedly active near the Kremlin.
