A Turkish drone operated by the Sudanese Armed Forces was shot down today near Nyala, Sudan, in an incident believed to be the targeting of a high-value individual, possibly a militia leader. This marks the second drone of its kind downed in Darfur, following an earlier incident in July north of El Fasher. The Rapid Support Militia announced the drone's downing in the Mercheng area between Manishi and Nyala. The drone's air defense systems are suspected to be Chinese FK-20000 or Russian Pantsir-S1, the latter potentially supplied by the Emirates. In the days preceding this event, Turkish drones from the Sudanese Armed Forces conducted continuous air attacks on Rapid Support Militia sites in El Fasher, contributing to the halting of militia advances through land operations. These drones also performed reconnaissance missions to locate air defense systems in the area, aiming to target them and secure air supplies for the besieged city. The reason for the drone's crash is speculated to be either an ambush or the pilot's unfamiliarity with existing defensive systems, leading to its entry into a direct targeting zone.
